Cannes Film Festival 2025: Full Lineup and Nominations Announced

Cannes, France – The highly anticipated 78th Cannes Film Festival, set to run from May 13 to 24, 2025, has unveiled its official lineup, featuring a dazzling array of auteurs, newcomers, and global storytellers competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or and other top honors.

Main Competition: Palme d'Or Contenders

This year's In Competition selection includes 19 films representing a wide range of genres, voices, and cultures. Highlights include:
  • “Eddington” – Ari Aster returns with a philosophical sci-fi epic.
  • “The Phoenician Scheme” – Wes Anderson offers another visually quirky tale, this time co-produced in Germany.
  • “Nouvelle Vague” – Richard Linklater pays tribute to the French New Wave.
  • “Alpha” – Julia Ducournau follows up Titane with a bold French-Belgian psychological thriller.
  • “The Mastermind” – Kelly Reichardt explores power and manipulation in a dual-nation production.
  • “A Simple Accident” – Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s latest quietly confronts authoritarianism.

  • Also competing are new films by Joachim Trier, the Dardenne brothers, and Chie Hayakawa, among others, with stories stretching from Brazil to Japan, Norway to South Africa.

    Un Certain Regard: Celebrating Bold Vision

    The Un Certain Regard section once again champions rising talent and daring narratives:
  • “Eleanor the Great” – Directed by actress Scarlett Johansson in her debut behind the camera.
  • “Homebound” – India’s Neeraj Ghaywan presents a poignant family drama.
  • “The Great Arch” – Stéphane Demoustier examines architecture, politics, and protest in contemporary France.
  • “Urchin” – A bold entry from British actor-turned-director Harris Dickinson.
  • Other exciting entries come from Egypt, Nigeria, Chile, and Tunisia, making this one of the most globally diverse editions yet.

    Out of Competition & Special Screenings

    Among the special presentations are highly anticipated films from Hollywood and European masters:
  • “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” – A blockbuster showcase featuring Tom Cruise.
  • “Highest 2 Lowest” – Spike Lee’s genre-bending experiment set in Tokyo.
  • “Colours of Time” – Cédric Klapisch blends memory and motion in this semi-autobiographical drama.
  • Opening Film: “Partir un jour” by Amélie Bonnin**, a nostalgic road trip story of friendship and farewell.
