ASC Spotlight Award Nominations Unleashed

ASC Spotlight AwardThe American Society of Cinematographers is conducting the first ASC Spotlight Award presentation this year, and they have now unleashed the names of the nominees. The final shortlist includes the names of cinematographers who moved camera for movies like, ‘Ida’, ‘Renoir’ and ‘Winter Nomads’.

“We’ve been honoring outstanding achievement in cinematography since we started the ASC Awards in 1987. Several ASC members developed the concept for this award after being inspired by these types of productions. We chose to add this new honor to recognize and praise areas of our art form that previously might have been overlooked”, said ASC Award Committee Chairman Lowell Peterson.

All the active members in the ASC will cast their vote to finalize the winners in this competition, and the topper will be declared at the 28th annual ASC Awards on Feb. 1 at the Hollywood & Highland Ray Dolby Ballroom.

Ron Howard’s ‘Rush’ Nominated for four BAFTA Awards

The film showcases the revenge between these two drivers during the 1976 Grand Prix Season. Chris Hemsworth enacted the role of James Hunt in the movie whereas Daniel Bruhl gave life to Niki Lauda.

This 81 minute movie is directed by Amos Gitai and it was first premiered in the Venice International Film Festival.

This year’s film festival will also witness the honoring of two eminent personalities in Indian Cinema, renowned director Adoor Gopalakrishnan and ace actor Vinod Khanna. The S D Burman award will be given to Shri. Hrudayanath Mageshkar for his outstanding contribution to Indian music. All the awards will be presented during the inaugural ceremony. The ceremony will also witness many renowned names in the Global Cinema coming under one roof.

The jury for this year consists of 11 members, and it will be headed by Laurence Kardish. Other members includes, Alexandra Stewart, Javier Angulo, Dileep Padgaonkar, Niki Karimi, Eduardo Rossoff, Anjum Rajabali, Klaus Maeck, Ashish SK, Kireet Khurana and Chithra Subramaniam. The festival will have competition on various segments like Indian Cinema, Marathi Cinema Today, Student Competition etc.

The main venue of the festival is City Pride Kothrud, and other venue partners include City Pride Abhiruchi, City Pride R Deccan, City Pride Satara Road, National Film Archive of India, E Square and Inox.
